Throughout my visits to France, there is one small town that really stands out. It’s a charming old town with narrow streets situated on the edge an enormous, crystal clear lake dwarfed by mountains. With easy access to the Alps, good food and hiking, this town has a little bit of everything. I first heard of Annecy years ago during a routine google search for “prettiest small towns in France” prior to a holiday to France. Annecy popped up and it was perfect. Located an hour from Geneva, it was set to be a picturesque and quiet side trip for us – a break from all the big cities we’d been visiting. As it turned out we spent longer in Annecy than we bargained for thanks to a failed trip to Switzerland, which you can read about here.
